TM
& THE
MAHARISHI’S MONEY GAMES
(Illustrations in the
following article come from some of the many TM websites and are their
illustrations/photos)
In 1957 an Indian, with the surname Mahesh, started a
movement in he called the ‘Spiritual Regeneration Movement’.
Somewhere along the way he also called himself the ‘Maharishi’ [maha
= great, rishi = seer, wise man, prophet] and proclaimed himself a ‘Yogi
[a practitioner of yoga who has gained great knowledge and power and can
teach these to followers]. He
moved from India to the USA and then to Britain. His Hindu-based religious movement
struggled until the ‘Liverpool Lads’, the Beatles, ‘discovered’ the
Maharishi in about 1967.
Suddenly the little Indian, nicknamed by some as the ‘Giggling Guru’, was
skyrocketed to fame and ‘meditation’ became the buzz word with the
trendies, the jet set, the Hollywood crowd. Interestingly, the Beatles quickly
dropped the Maharishi as their guru, and even regarded him as something of
a fraud.
Ever since those heady days of the late 1960’s, however,
the ‘Giggling Guru’ has increased his delusions of grandeur.
He used names, other than the
‘Spiritual Regeneration Movement’, particularly
‘Transcendental Meditation’ of
‘TM’ for short. He re-packaged his teachings and
practices so they were no longer obviously Hindu religion - claiming it
was all ‘scientific’.
His followers have proclaimed him as
‘widely regarded as the
foremost scientist in the field of consciousness, and is considered the
greatest teacher in the world today.
Over forty years ago his infinite love drew him out of isolation in
the Himalayas to relieve the world from suffering–to create Heaven on
Earth. Having learned from
his guru a long-lost knowledge, he has completely revived the practical,
ancient science that is capable of creating Perfect Health and
Enlightenment for any individual and a society of Happiness and Peace -
Heaven on Earth.’
Various TM websites and documents list the Maharishi’s
supposed achievements - with universal (not just global) impacts -
unfortunately (??) while TMers think/belief they have experienced all the
wonderful benefits, the rest of the world hasn’t noticed any difference!
e.g.:
‘1972: Maharishi
inaugurates his World Plan and creates a new science -- the Science of Consciousness, the Science of
Creative Intelligence, training 2,000 teachers of this science (by now
40,000) to bring the timeless message of Transcending to all parts of the
globe.
1975: Maharishi
discovers the Constitution of the Universe -- the lively potential of
Natural Law -- in Rk Ved, and discovers the structuring dynamics of Rk Ved
in the entire Vedic Literature. On the basis of the discovery of the
Maharishi Effect, Maharishi celebrates the Dawn of the Age of
Enlightenment around the world, with grand celebrations on all continents.
1976: Maharishi creates
a World Government for the Age of Enlightenment with its
sovereignty in the domain of consciousness and authority in the invincible
power of Natural Law. [OUR underlining -
Australian psychiatrist and leading TM promoter, Dr Byron Rigby, was
Minister for Health and Immortality in this ‘World Government’ of the
Maharishi]
Maharishi introduces the TM-Sidhi Programme and the experience of bubbling
bliss in Yogic Flying to create supreme mind-body co-ordination in
the individual and coherence in world consciousness
[OUR underlining - this ‘flying’ though now practised for
more than 30 years has never gone beyond ‘Stage One’ - hopping in one’s
backside on rubber mats - no one has ever hovered or risen from the ground
or flown around - NOT even the Maharishi - HE hasn’t even bounced on his
bottom as some of his followers have done].
1978: Maharishi
inaugurates the "Ideal Society Campaign in 108 Countries". Maharishi
creates the World Peace Project, sending teams of Yogic Flyers to the most
troubled areas of the world, to calm the violence. Maharishi formulates
his Absolute Theories of Government, Education, Health, Defence, Economy,
Management, and Law and Order to raise every area of life to perfection
[His glossy, gold trimmed magazine, World
Government News - Nov/Dec 1978-January 1979 - arrogantly and nonsensically
declared:
‘During October, in a historically unprecedented global initiative, the
World Government of the Age of Enlightenment sent Governors of the Age of
Enlightenment to restore peace in the five most troubled areas of the
world. Through this
initiative, inspired by His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the
World Government of the Age of Enlightenment, world peace has been
achieved and large-scale violence and conflict, and the consequent mass
pain and suffering of humanity, have been vanquished from the face of the
earth.’
!!! OUR underlining - both the
news coverage of the time - as well as subsequent history clearly show
that nothing of what they claimed was ‘vanquished from the face of
the earth’!!]
1995: Maharishi
establishes Maharishi University of Management in the U.S.A., Japan,
Holland, and Russia and introduces his Corporate Revitalisation Programme
[USA educational authorities have rated
the Maharishi’s University as the lowest academic reputation score of all
schools and colleges - including this year and last year].’
The ludicrous claims and comments have continued through
the years - their effect has
been largely to impress TM followers, unable to think clearly because of
the dulling effects of all that meditation.
In more recent times the Maharishi has his old games. He supposedly inaugurated
‘the Global Country of
World Peace’,
‘a nation without borders...to provide a global home for
peace-loving people everywhere’ on the
7th of October, 2000,
‘based upon the scientific discovery of Total Natural Law,
the Constitution of the Universe, by both objective and subjective science
— modern science and Vedic Science.’
Shortly after that he arranged for the ‘coronation’ of one
of his most devoted followers,
‘Professor Tony Nader, M.D., Ph.D., President of Maharishi
Open University, is now the First Sovereign Ruler of the Global Country of
World Peace, His Majesty Raja Nader Raam.’
BY THE WAY, whatever happened to that ‘World Government for
the Age of Enlightenment’?? Wasn’t THAT supposed to achieve world peace??
In the Oct-Dec issue of TACL 2001 we ran an article that
mentioned that Transcendental Meditation’s Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, had
asked big businesses to donate US $1 billion to provide a retreat and
supplies for 40,000 TM adherents, where they could meditate, in order to
try to, they believe, bring peace to the world. Apparently His Sovereign
Majesty Raja Tony Nader Raam needed the help of his meditating friends to
help along his nonexistent ‘Country of World Peace’.
Perhaps the Maharishi was asking for corporate support
because the new currency being used in the TM-controlled town of ‘Vedic
City’ in Iowa, USA, isn’t
bearing the interest it otherwise might. The money, called the Raam Mudra
- after an Indian prince of bygone times - is used alongside the US
dollar. Original currency is only illegal if it tries to replicate the
dollar; but it may be used concurrently (would this be termed
concurrency?) with it: something like the Disney dollars at Disneyland.
The rate of exchange is 1:10 - 1 Raam is worth US $10, 10 Raam gets you
$100, and so on.
The Raam was invented as a means to promote Vedic City,
founded in 1974 by the Maharishi. The Vedic City town council is hoping
the Raam will become a collector’s item, like stamps or coins. It is also
legal tender: however, it seems to be slow in being adopted by anywhere
else outside Vedic City; with the exception of the town of Fairfield,
about 3 kilometres away, where many TMers live. But even there, only a few
businesses - run by TMers - and the Maharishi University of Management use
the Raam. No doubt much of the problem is the wariness of non-TMers to
accept the Raam as legal tender, despite being able to change them into US
dollars at the Vedic ity Hall. The First National Bank in Fairfield has
refused to deal in the Raam; they say this is because if it crashes, they
would be left with flocks of useless Raam.

and claims of Transcendental Meditation and the Maharishi, a Website worth
